PARKLAND, Fla – Stand with Parkland – The National Association of Families for Safe Schools today announced a new partnership with the SaferWatch mobile app to collaborate on their mutual mission of making our communities safer from violence. Since losing loved ones in the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, leaders of Stand with Parkland have advocated for practical, non-partisan approaches to improving campus safety, mental health support, and responsible firearms ownership, and SaferWatch has emerged as the most effective mobile application to make schools safer.
“We have spent thousands of hours researching and working with federal, state, and local school safety experts, law enforcement and political leaders and we know that leveraging technology such as the SaferWatch application can be a cost-effective way to improve school safety,” said Stand with Parkland President Tony Montalto. “After looking at a number of providers, Stand with Parkland endorses SaferWatch because it provides a comprehensive proactive approach to school safety by directly connecting students, teachers and parents with onsite security resources, school administrators, and local law enforcement.”
SaferWatch provides a wide range of services that support Stand with Parkland’s mission. When partnered with neighborhoods, schools, mental health providers, and local law enforcement, the SaferWatch application provides a superior, integrated system to keep students and staff safer at the touch of their fingertips.
Every second counts during an emergency, and for that reason SaferWatch has partnered with Sheriff Gregory Tony to provide a direct interface to Broward County Sheriff’s Office Real-Time Crime Center and their 911 Communication Centers.
Many different warning signs preceded the Parkland shooting, some of them reported and some not. Some tips fell through the cracks and were not handled properly. Having a unified system like SaferWatch in place provides an easy avenue to report issues, and track accountability with digital records of when law enforcement and school officials receive potential threats. SaferWatch’s Mobile Panic Alert System, can simultaneously notify multiple entities of a potential emergency, including instantly notifying 911 centers and public safety answering points.
The SaferWatch program in Broward County has been so effective that it has expanded to cover every city in the county, the courthouse, Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport, Port Everglades seaport, and 850 houses of worship. SaferWatch also helps to protect private entities such as corporations, malls, universities, arenas, stadiums, large events and even professional sports teams. In 2020 SaferWatch was selected to be the Official Safety App of Super Bowl LIV in Miami, Florida. The Host Committee deployed the SaferWatch mobile panic button system to help protect approximately 10,000 staff and volunteers, along with the fans, and visitors.
